Peter Checksfield is the author of five acclaimed books on music, TV and film; ‘Channelling The Beat!', ‘Look Wot They Dun!’, ‘The Beatles – Tell Me What You See’, ‘Let’s Stomp!’ and ‘Untamed Youth!’, as well as ‘Thanet Revealed’, a unique collection of nude photography.
His books have been reviewed by ‘Record Collector’, ‘Mojo’, ‘Shindig!’, ‘Now Dig This’, ‘The Beat’, ‘Ugly Things’, ‘Folkrocks’, ‘Wired Up!’, ‘Making Time’, ‘The Joe Meek Society’, ‘The Daily Beatle’, ‘Isle of Thanet News’ and more, and he has been interviewed for BBC Radio Merseyside’s ‘On The Beat’ show.
“My previous book ‘Let’s Stomp!’ took me almost a year of very hard work, so I planned to have much of the Spring and Summer off, travelling with my partner Heather as we’re both keen walkers… then the lockdown happened!
During the decade or so from 2004 to 2014, I photographed much of Thanet, often featuring nude, mostly local, models in the photographs. Not ready to start a new music book project, I decided to look through thousands of half-forgotten old negatives and photos from these years, putting together ‘Thanet Revealed’. The glossy 170 page book is part photo, part local history and part tour guide, and takes a trip around Thanet’s towns and villages, with snippets of social history accompanying the black and white images.
