Beaky Blinders: Phil Capon

An invitation from Kent artist Phil Capon to visit his Summer exhibition at The Eclectic Art Gallery in Margate Old Town.

ABOUT ME
Born in Faversham I studied graphic design at Portsmouth and Berkshire College of Art. The legendary David Hockney, among others, tutored me. After a career as an Art Director/Creative Director in many leading London Advertising Agencies I moved to France to renovate an old farm complex and concentrate on painting. Ten years on I moved back to the UK and lived on the Isle of Wight where I joined a group of artists at Binnel Studios, St Lawrence. I was lucky to work with prestigious artists such as David Firmstone (OBE) who was president of the Royal Society of Watercolour artists, and legendary landscape artist Celia Wilkinson. Back living in Kent now I work from my studio in the garden. My work sells internationally and I enjoy being a full time artist!

MY WORK
Hopefully my work speaks for itself as it is quite representational. I'm mostly known for my Still Life paintings of fish and fruit. My more imaginative work is a bit left field with a humorous touch. I would say that this series of paintings' falls into this category. I hope you come and see them for yourself and enjoy the exhibition as much as I enjoyed painting them.

THE GALLERY
Phil's exhibitions takes place alongside a display of contemporary original art by the gallery's resident group of local artists. Works include paintings, photography, ceramics, jewellery, and wood sculptures. Prints, greetings cards and postcards are also available.

The gallery is open Thursdays to Mondays, 11am to 5pm. It is in Margate's Old Town, near Turner Contemporary. The local area is a great venue for a day or weekend trip, in all seasons.
