Breathing Lines 1: Madhubani-influenced artworks

This exhibition features a series of paintings by Shringi Kumari. They depict beings and their relationships with mind, self and nature in abstract Madhubani style. Inspired by Madhubani paintings, made by people of the villages in Madhubani, Bihar, India, it invites its viewers into pulling, peering through and unlayering the patterns to keep looking beyond, with curiosity and creative interpretations.

Shringi Kumari is an artist, poet, game developer and researcher. She is keenly interested in psychology. With her work she hopes to challenge patterns, forms, ideas and help to open gateways of cultural inclusivity through common humanity. She uses line drawings inspired by Madhubani to tell stories that link us as one with nature and with each other. Embedded in ideas and practice of kriya yoga her work connects the mind, body, breath and environment as one.

Shringi will be present in the gallery during her exhibition, to meet with visitors and chat about her techniques and inspirations. Her work is for sale.

Her exhibition runs alongside a display of contemporary original art by our resident group of local artists. Their works include paintings, photography, ceramics, jewellery, and wood sculptures. Prints, greetings cards and postcards are also available.

The Gallery is open Thursdays to Mondays, 11am to 5pm. It is in Margate's Old Town, near Turner Contemporary. The local area is a great venue for a day or weekend trip, in all seasons.
